F or one, remember when Subaru’s were reliable?
Oh also John Davis’ attitude towards imports. That’ s hilarious . This Subaru thing...will it catch on? who knows.

remember too that those numbers were in FWD mode...which you could choose. forward in some ways back in others. I wish Subaru would offer a center lock feature again.

If it was anything like the BRAT(which might weigh less), it feels plenty quick.

My mom passed down her white GL wagon when my truck was totaled. I drove it for a couple of years. I hated that car. I retired it when I took it in to get the CV joint replaced and they discovered it needed a new transmission.

Center lock and LOW RANGE was the shit. One of my buddies used his GL for a firewood
car. He j
ust cranked the shocks up to max height and mounted some 14" AT tires on that car and it would go anywhere.

This was the era of 55 mph national speed limits so 95 HP was actually totally adequate.

Remember it only weighed 2300 lbs too.
24 lbs/hp
Compared to a crosstrek
3300 lbs for 22 lbs/hp
I mean, its not THAT bad really.
Granted if you put 4 adults and gear in there, its not going to be a ripper.

93HP, likely less given the blown HG, was plenty sufficient for merging onto the interstate above the legal speed limit.
If you can’t make the highway with more
power in a lighter car it’s not the car’s fault.

Use those revs.
![]() 08/21/2018 at 12:33 |

Why use the revs when all the torque/hp is down low?
There-in lies the issue with everyone who claims old vehicles are slow. Stop trying to rev it to the moon, it makes all it’s damn power under 4k!

The BRAT I had, had a whole 67hp when new. So probably like 45-50hp by the time I got it.

The carbureted 1.8L can be a bit of a nightmare. I had a ‘92 Loyale and it was a good car once I fixed all the oil leaks. Five speed with 4wd. Bought it from the original owner for $800, fixed it up and used it as my desert beater for a while. Ended up selling it for $2,500. Should have kept it.

I had no problem with my ‘92 Loyale on highways in 2016. Felt much safer than my Corvair! I think they both made the same amount of power.
